Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease (gum disease) is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and affects nearly half of all Canadians over 30. Left untreated, it progresses silently — destroying the bone and tissue that support your teeth. Our comprehensive periodontal care stops disease progression and restores gum health.
How It Works
Comprehensive Periodontal Assessment
We measure the depth of gum pockets at every tooth, assess bone levels on x-rays, and chart recession and bleeding to accurately stage your gum disease.
Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
Dr. Basi explains your diagnosis — gingivitis (early, reversible) or periodontitis (advanced) — and recommends the appropriate level of treatment.
Scaling & Root Planing
For active gum disease, deep cleaning below the gumline removes bacterial deposits and smooths root surfaces to allow gums to reattach. Done in sections with local anesthesia.
Antibiotic Therapy (if needed)
In some cases, locally delivered antibiotics are used at infection sites to enhance the effectiveness of mechanical treatment.
Reassessment
4–8 weeks after treatment, we remeasure pocket depths to evaluate healing and determine if additional treatment or referral is needed.
Maintenance Program
Periodontal patients transition to a maintenance schedule (typically every 3–4 months) to keep disease controlled long-term.

Q.What are the stages of gum disease?
Gingivitis is the earliest stage — gums are inflamed but bone is unaffected and it's fully reversible with professional cleaning. Periodontitis involves bone loss and is manageable but not reversible.
Q.How is gum disease treated?
Most cases respond to scaling and root planing (deep cleaning). Advanced cases may need referral to a periodontist for surgical intervention.
Q.Will gum disease treatment hurt?
Deep cleaning is done under local anesthesia for comfort. Some tenderness for 2–3 days afterward is normal and resolves quickly.
Q.Can gum disease come back after treatment?
Yes — without regular maintenance. Periodontal disease is managed, not cured. Consistent 3–4 month maintenance appointments are essential to keep it under control.
